To some extent most people experience episodes of self doubt and social anxiety. The difference between people who can quell their self doubt and reinstate confidence and those who are plagued by self consciousness lies in their learned abilities to use positive self talk and engage in actions that boost self confidence. Read on to learn easy everyday tips to building your self confidence.
Act Positive. It seems simple, but it is not overly simple. In a situation of stress and unexpected setbacks make a marked attempt to find something positive about the situation. Repeat the positive statement in your mind, and repeat it out loud to those experiencing the situation with you.
Shower yourself in positive attention. Before you go out make sure that you are freshly showered and groomed. Don't save your beautiful clothes for a special occasion. If you are feeling down or doubtful about yourself, dress yourself up. Admire yourself in the mirror and remind your self that these emotions will pass.
Exterminate Negative Thinking. Recognize your negative thoughts and kill them in the act. Restructure the negative thought into a positive statement. Repeat the statement to yourself until the negative thought passes. If you just can't shake that negative thought, try writing the positive thought on an index card and read it every time the negative thought sneaks back into your consciousness. Do this with all of your negative thoughts and soon the action will become natural. Being positive is a strong foundation for self confidence.
Give compliments. This goes back to treating others as you would like to be treated. Don't hold back on the compliments. Giving honest compliments boosts the self esteem and confidence of others. Knowing that you have the power to give that gift is a confidence boosting tool in itself. The best part about giving compliments is that you will start receiving a lot more of them, and that feels good.
Build your perfect self on paper. Write down the qualities that you wish to desire like confidence, optimism and peacefulness. Create positive sentences with these qualities and write them down on note cards. Examples might be, "I am confident," "I believe in myself," "I am at peace." Keep the note cards in your pocket and reference them when you begin to doubt yourself.
Building self confidence is not a one time event. It is a lifelong process. Learn how to foster self confidence on a daily basis and soon you will be reaping the benefits of peace of mind, happiness and optimism. If you have employed a number of techniques and are still having trouble breaking though low self esteem, seek professional help. It's worth seeking help if it means living in the peace of self confidence.
